SCOLIOSIS & YOUR MOVEMENT

strata • layers formed over time • your body moves through them

If you have scoliosis, you've probably noticed that most people might just think about it as a big curve (or two) in your spine. But you experience something much bigger than that~

Maybe one shoulder always wants to carry the bag. Perhaps you naturally stand heavier on one leg, or you rotate more easily one way than the other. You might notice certain areas of your body feel strong and familiar, while others feel difficult to access. These patterns become so ingrained that they often feel like "just the way I am."

The body is incredibly intelligent. The muscles, joints, and tissues that support your movement become stronger and more dominant, while other areas receive less attention, less movement, and often less breath. Over time, you become very skilled at moving through the parts of yourself that are easiest to access.

Joseph Pilates once said, "You are only as young as your spine is flexible." For me, with scoliosis, that idea is about maintaining access to yourself. The ability to breathe into areas that have become compressed. To find access to spaces that have become less familiar.

This is where Scolio-Pilates® can be such a powerful tool. Through scoliosis-specific movement, breathwork, and awareness, you begin reconnecting to areas that may be overlooked in a traditional fitness setting. The goal is to create a body that feels more supported, more balanced, and more connected as you move through daily life.
